Lesson Format
Welcome to the self-paced lessons that are each approximately 30 minutes. You can choose to play the entire lesson, or break it up into sections over the course of a few days.
One of the benefits of a self-paced recorded lesson is that you can pause at any time for deeper discussions about the subject matter. (And if questions come up that you'd like answered directly, just email me with the question!)
Each lesson is divided into five parts:
Introduction
Word of the Week
Thoughts On Paper
Teaching points with activities
In Word of the Week, I try to hook students on the joy of great vocabulary. (The more often that Story Ninjas learn new words, they more comfortable they get with language use, and this indirectly helps them become better writers.)
The secondary purpose of Word of the Week is to give Story Ninjas something to write about in the four-minute Thoughts On Paper, a place to write without fear of mistakes or judgements. As a way to encourage the freedom of writing without fear, many teachers will write alongside their students and share their writing later.
Then come the teaching points with activities.
All of the activities are available as downloads in each lesson.
